He is a professor at the Universidad Nacional, got his degree in Economics from the Universidad de Costa Rica. Later obtained his Master 'degree in Economic Policy at CINPE-UNA. Afterwards, he obtained his PhD at the Department of Planning and Development with an emphasis in Economics of Innovation. t the University of Aalborg, Denmark.
He has worked on various research projects related to sustainable development, including studies in the areas of trade and environment, and analysis of development and inclusive growth issues, with a focus on innovation systems. Since 2008, he has coordinated from CINPE the Encuesta Nacional de Innovación (National Innovation Survey), a MICITT study.
He worked as a cooperative advisor for CONACOOP and INFOCOOP and was Executive Director of the Permanent Commission of Self-management Cooperatives. He served as Director of Globelics from 2019 to 2022 and as Managing Director of CINPE from 2013 to 2018. He is currently a professor and researcher at CINPE.
In addition, he has taught courses in the doctoral programs of ICAP and ITCR, as well as multiple international participations in seminars and short courses. He has been part of interdisciplinary teams with entities such as: Aalborg University in Denmark, Free University of Amsterdam in The Netherlands, World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF) in Washington, University of El Salvador, National Foundation for Development (FUNDE) in El Salvador, Autonomous University of Nicaragua, Panamanian Center for Social Action Studies (CEASPA), Salvadoran Program for Environmental Research (PRISMA), FLACSO in Guatemala, Bergen University and SNF Institute in Norway.
He teaches courses on Innovation and Competitiveness Management, Science, Technology and Innovation Policies, Economic Theory and Policy, and Economic Policy for Sustainable Development.
