Costa Rican economist from Universidad Nacional with a Master’s Degree in Economic Policy from the same house of study, and a Master’s Degree in Economic Development from Williams College University, Massachusetts; He got his PhD in Economics from Tilburg University, the Netherlands.

He does research about applied value chains in the agri-food sector, as well as in themes related to strategic behavior and its applications to market analysis. Currently, he participates in research about the Costa Rican coffee sector, doing a behavioral analysis of consumers, business strategies, and the impact of COVID-19 on the input costs and local trade in coffee-growing areas. Besides, as a member of the interdisciplinary research team, he develops a research project to study the relocation elements of coffee production in Costa Rica, giving special interest to the economic, climatic, and agroecological variations.

He is an academic in the International Center for Economic Policy and Sustainable Development from Universidad Nacional, where he has developed as a director in the Research and Teaching Program, PhD in Economic Policy commission coordinator, and managing director. Furthermore, he has been dean and vice dean of the Social Sciences Faculty at Universidad Nacional, a position that he performed in parallel as a member of the academic council from the same house of study.

Outside the Universidad Nacional, he performed as CENPRO’s director in the Department of Economic Studies, minister of foreign trade, and as a member of the technical team of the National Technical Unit in the World Bank RUTA project. He has published academic articles and book chapters on themes related to strategic behaviour to improve the environmental quality in agro-food chains, small coffee producers' adaptation against external events, economic instruments for solid waste management, economic evaluation of natural resources and environment, among other topics.
